It is weird. I'm trying to think what could be wrong...

The only though I can come up with is that if you install an updated 
fedora kernel after you install the rt patched kernel it may inherit the 
init=/sbin/upstart setting, and maybe that could screw up the startup? I 
would check the kernel startup options in /etc/grub/grub.conf and make 
sure that the upstart option is not present in the Fedora kernel boot 
lines.

As I don't have much hardware to test fc15 I don't have much local data. 
But it looks like you have to be lucky to get the rt kernel running on 
fc15...
