You are right! If I run it on playback only, it doesn't terminate
immediately. I haven't tried recording on this thing yet. I still have
to try it with some load on it - I'll give that a go in the evening
(otherwise it's not long before my boss finds out that I'm tinkering
with non-work stuff during working hours! :) )

I think I have to go and find out some decent USB sound card since the
Dell onboard one is sort of useless, isn't it?
