I'm using KDE, and using the superuser filemanager, go to /var/log/messages.

These are datestamped, so you will have to work your way through the dates
to
find the log entry that you're looking for. You can always open a terminal
if
you're using Gnome, su to root, and type. cat /var/log/messages . There is
more than 1 messages log going back a few days. Look in /var/log . They are
named, messages , messages.1 , messages.2 , etc.

I must admit that using cat /var/log/messages on KDE, I can't find the
message
that I can find using the superuser filemanager. I seem to be missing a days

worth of entries. A bit bizarre, but that's computers for you.

Nigel.

Subject: [PlanetCCRMA] kernel-2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 is already installed

Hi.

I used to use Planet CCRMA 2 years ago and it was really useful and
timesaving. I'm sure it will be even more now with Fedora Core.

Updating the kernel I have this problem

[prompt] yum install planetccrma-core

....

Transaction Check Error: package kernel-2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 (which is
newer than kernel-2.6.16-1.2080. 13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already
installed
  package kernel-2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 (which is newer than
kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is al ready installed

I guess I made an update more than you before I attempted to install
Planet...
Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks.

mariacallas

Hi. According to Fernando's instructions on the install instructions for FC5

this is fixable.

open a terminal, su to root, and open a text editor, kwrite,gedit, and go
to. /etc/yum.conf. Put a # in front of pkgpolicy=newest, thus commenting it
out, save, and then exit the text editor. If all goes well you should now be

able to install the ccrma kernel.

All the best. Nigel.

I too have had trouble installing the ccrma kernel on FC5

I get the following message upon executing 'yum install planetccrma-core':

Transaction Check Error: package kernel-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5 (which is newer
than kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed

Even so, I have adjusted yum settings as indicated on the site:

- Installonlyn - disabled with a 0)
-Yum.conf:
# This is the fedorafaq.org yum.conf for Fedora Core 5.
#
# Note that you also need the rest of the configuration
# as described at http://www.fedorafaq.org/#yumconf

cachedir=/var/cache/yum
keepcache=0
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log

# Don't check keys for localinstall

# Changed this because some mirrors go down and then
# re-trying takes forever.
timeout=7

# PUT YOUR REPOS HERE OR IN separate files named file.repo

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Nigel: thanks. I apologize for missing that paragraph.

Now the configuration has been modified so that

>>> grep policy /etc/yum.conf
#pkgpolicy=newest

and the result is

Transaction Check Error: package kernel-2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 (which is
newer than kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed
  package kernel-2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 (which is newer than
kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed
  package kernel-2.6.16-1.2133_FC5 (which is newer than
kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed

It seems that the version is checked against both kernels I currenty
have, instead of just one.

I guess this is the same problem that has been pointed out in the
"Fedora 5 Kernel Installation Nightmare" message.

Thanks,

mariacallas

I made a reboot and... the 2080 kernel is there and seems to work.

grrrr

Ok. That was not the ccrma kernel. So there is a problem.

Hi,
I haven't really had a look, but Fons Andriessen did a workshop at LAC
2006 regarding impulse response recording.
You can find it here:
http://lad.linuxaudio.org/contrib/zkm_meeting_2006/video_snippets/friday/
And more information here:
http://lac.zkm.de/2006/downloads.shtml

Cheers,
Andres

I can have at my disposal a Motu ADC, hard disk recording software and a few
mikes with booms. I want to measure the impulse response first, then maybe
find some nodes and anti-nodes at a few frequencies. Is anyone on the list
able to point me to some information, web or published on usual procedures
for making these kind of measurements? In particular how do you make the
impulsive sound in such a way as to keep it exactly the same through a
number of measurements?
