What's in:
  cat /proc/asound/cards
  cat /proc/asound/devices
Does the card have a mixer that shows up in "alsamixer"?
Did you try running "echomixer"? (not that I know what it does :-)
Did you have the card running before under linux? (sorry, I forget if
you did or not).
