Sorry to get to thread a bit late.

There are apt'ified versions of the fc3 install images. Part of the
still being written guide to installing fc2/3 (the new quarter has just
started and I'm teaching so I'm busy busy busy - no news there).

See:
http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/iso/3/

Once you install the iso's get apt from:
rpm -Uvh http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/apt/rpms/apt-0.5.15cnc6-2.rhfc3.ccrma.i386.rpm

No configuration necessary. Just "apt-get update" and you are in bussiness.
  apt-get install planetccrma-core
(to get the "safe" kernel)
  apt-get install planetccrma-core-edge
(to get the better latency kernel that can have trouble with some configs)

Then install the apps as needed, or "apt-get install synaptic"

No sound configuration should be necessary, FC3 should configure sound
when installed.
