Shayne hit the same problem. I suspect it should be a patch I added to
rtirq (not Rui's fault!) to fix a corner case. Sigh. I have pulled the
updates temporarily from the repository just in case. The *alsa*
packages should not be the problematic ones (_should_) as they come from
the same source as 1.0.9-0.1.rc1 and were compiled in the same
conditions, the only change should be that /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound is
enabled automatically by default. 

I left a new "fixed" rtirq in the repository from a proper release from
Rui. Could you try upgrading to it? Let me know asap what happens. Just
to check if this is the problem run "/etc/rc.d/init.d/rtirq status"
before the upgrade.
