[PlanetCCRMA] Tascam US-122 not working

Hello. I'm trying to use a Tascam US-122 with my Compaq Presario
2580us running Redhat 9, but it's never recognized properly--the light
never turns on. I've just started installing the Planet CCRMA
software, so everything is probably up to date. I'm using kernel
2.4.26-1.ll.rh90.ccrma, and ALSA 1.0.4.

Here is my modules.conf file:
-----------------------------
alias eth0 natsemi
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 usb-uhci
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394

# -- Keep modules from being autocleaned (CCRMA mod)
add options -k snd-card-0
add options -k snd-card-1

# Old OSS stuff? (I'm not so sure about the last two lines)
# alias sound-slot-0 trident

# pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S

Here is my /var/log/messages file after: running alsasound stop,
running alsasound start, and then plugging in the US-122:

--------------------------------------------

Many of the options don't seem to be recognized, but the real problem
to me seems to be the last line, no? Here is a snippet of my lsusb -v
after plugging in:
-------------------------------------------
....
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 1604:8006 Tascam
Language IDs: none (invalid length string descriptor 02; len=2)
Device Descriptor:
  bLength 18
  bDescriptorType 1
  bcdUSB 1.00
  bDeviceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
  bDeviceSubClass 255 Vendor Specific Subclass
  bDeviceProtocol 255 Vendor Specific Protocol
  bMaxPacketSize0 64
.....
-------------------------------------------
so it seems that something at least knows that the device is there.
There is no mention of the device or card1 at all in /proc/asound/ or
the files contained in it. Running usx2yloader returns "usx2yloader:
no US-X2Y-compatible cards found" (and I'm starting to think that this
is the main problem--the firmware never gets loaded, so the device ID
8006 never turns into 8007?). If I run alsasound start after the
device is already plugged in, there is no improvement. Any thoughts?
I'm not quite sure how to check which versions of hotplug and fxload
I'm running, but they should definitely be up to date enough, it
seems...

Best,
Dan Flickinger (who has been away from the Knoll too long)
