It was just an expression of desire, I think :-)

It would indeed be helpful. The addition of acpi, for example, was
because I needed to get things running on a Sony laptop. But now acpi is
standard in the kernel...

Anyway, I know of several patchsets specifically targeted to laptops (so
that things like suspend work fine) but I have never tried to test one
of those.
