[PlanetCCRMA] sound problems

When you raised the levels on the alsamixer, did you un-mute each needed
channel. If I am not mistaken you need to type M after  changing the
levels on each fader.

May be you should also try:

 /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound restart
