snd.html was intended as that sort of introduction, but it doesn't cover the topics you mention. Also about 20 years ago Dave Phillips wrote a nice intro to Snd, but by Snd 14 it had become so out-dated that I stopped including it in the Snd tarball. It would be good to add a "how to" or "cookbook" section to snd.html.
