I just got back to this email! I don't have time today to get these over 
to FedEx/Kinkos to get color prints for you all. Could one of you handle 
this, and make sure the 5 that are leaving on Monday get them?

We are trying our best to reduce any chance that our gear has any
problems at security/customs. We are particularly concerned about our
salad-bowl speaker arrays, which are integral elements in SLOrk. We
were wondering if you might write a formal letter that we can show to
TSA / security / customs? Nette crafted a reference letter below that
you can use/modify if helpful.

The letter:

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter shall serve to verify that XXXXXXX is traveling with audio
technology, most specifically custom-built speakers, as part of the
Stanford University Laptop Orchestra (SLOrk). This equipment is owned by
Stanford University, and is insured through the Risk Management
Department of Stanford University.

The equipment carried will be used as part of a collaborative seminar,
in conjunction with the Stanford Center at Peking University, that will
introduce students at SCPKU to the emerging art of the laptop orchestra.

Participating students, supervised by Dr. Ge Wang of Stanford
University’s CCRMA (the Center for Computer Research in Music and
Acoustics) include: Rob Hamilton (teaching assistant), Spencer Salazar
(teaching assistant), Romain Michon, Zhengshan “Kitty” Shi, Alexander
Chechile, Madeline Huberth, Hana Shin, and John Granzow. These students
will assist Dr. Wang in demonstrating performance techniques for the
laptop orchestra, and will mentor and perform with Chinese student
enrolled in the seminar at SCPKU.

The seminar begins on June 16, 2014, and concludes on July 4, 2014,
however students and faculty will be traveling prior to and after the
actual seminar dates.
