[PlanetCCRMA] perhaps why some of us have more trouble w/ pulseaudio than others (ICE1712/M-audio delta problem w/ pulseaudio)

I also use this card M-Audio 24/96 and think it has great sound
quality. In the last few years support seems to have been sketchy,
but i don't know who is to "blame", pulse or alsa or distro...

Prior to ubuntu 8.xx it seemed to work fine, but i used it mostly for
listening to music.
Around Ubuntu 8.xx i remember removing pulseaudio to get normal things
(like sound in youtube) to work better.
Since 9.10 and 10.04 it works okay with the workarounds.

Recently switched to Fedora 12 and had the same problem as ubuntu. To
get it working correctly (and works great now) I've used the following
tweaks:

1) Workaround here..
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/178442
Particularly Post #52/#53

2) Learned how to save and restore envy24ctl settings. See
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=588585

I like pulseaudio especially given that "pasuspender qjackctl" works
so well. Overall it works great with and without pulseaudio if one can
set it up. - for me anyway.
