[PlanetCCRMA] firewire woes (again)

It seems that the permission settings might be the problem.
I can run jack as root and access the firewire card.
The device is set for group == audio
crw-rw----. 1 root audio 171, 0 2010-03-20 16:01 /dev/raw1394

/etc/udev/rules.d/69-raw1394.rules:KERNEL=="raw1394*", GROUP="audio"

perhaps somehow I need to add me to the group? I tried to look for this 
group under the add user/groups application but didn't see anything there.
Do I need to create a group called audio and add myself to it? Or is it 
more delicate than that?
