Could we try to see what changed? Do an "rpm -q -a --last" to see which
packages were last installed. Do you remember what you did other than
updates before X stopped working? It is strange that updates caused this
as I have not issued any for quite a while and Fedora hasn't either.

I'm on gdm version 2.14.11

Starting X w/ sudo did work.
