Now I need to configure ALSA to work with my Echo Indigo I/O card. In order to do that I need the sources (or at least the headers) for my kernel. So where I can find the PREEMPT_DESKTOP sources?

I think you just need to install the "kernel-devel" package to get
the kernel headers. If you google for the kernel-devel version of your
kernel you might be able to find them, just look for something like
"*kernel-devel*-2.6.16-1.2080.11.rrt.rhfc5.*ccrma*.i686.*rpm*
<http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/mirror/fedora/linux/planetcore/5/i386/kernel-devel-2.6.16-1.2080.11.rrt.rhfc5.ccrma.i686.rpm>"
or whatever kernel version your using. Apt or Yum might also install it
if you tell it to install "kernel-devel" or maybe not.
