Nigel: thanks. I apologize for missing that paragraph.

Now the configuration has been modified so that

>>> grep policy /etc/yum.conf
#pkgpolicy=newest

and the result is

Transaction Check Error:   package kernel-2.6.16-1.2096_FC5 (which is
newer than kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed
  package kernel-2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 (which is newer than
kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed
  package kernel-2.6.16-1.2133_FC5 (which is newer than
kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma) is already installed

It seems that the version is checked against both kernels I currenty
have, instead of just one.

I guess this is the same problem that has been pointed out in the
"Fedora 5 Kernel Installation Nightmare" message.
