Yes, you're quite right; the combination Apt/Synaptic worked muched 
better together than Yum/Yumex.
Perhaps Smart is a better alternative but I haven't yet been able to add 
the Planet's repositories to it.

BTW, where can I find the kernel-devel package for this kernel?
