[PlanetCCRMA] Re: From zero to DAW in 2 hours !

Bal,

I looked over your output file... Of course there were a couple
of supposed "error" messages.. but I got those same ones myself,
and ignored them... all seemed fine. SOO... I think your install
went perfectly.

It looks like qjackctl and ardour are starting/working with no problems?

I did not see where you ran alsamixer and raised the volume
control for your sound card. have you done that??

If you DID get sound from one or two apps, but not hydrogen...
then... have you looked in the qjackctl "connections" window
and is hydrogen outputs connected to soundcard input/playback?
.. and, have you loaded a demo song and pressed "play" ?
Do you see the cursor moving, and the level meters SHOWing
some drum instruments making noise (on the screen) ?

Without more info.... like the output you get from rosegarden
I can't tell what might be wrong there. Also... if most other audio
apps ARE working, then perhaps you should also ask about
rosegarden on their own mailing list.... more people might know
the problem/solution (I'm on there too, but might not know the
solution :)

The kernel panic on 'init 6' is still rather worrisome, but I have
no idea about that myself. You might try to google for that
error message and see what it turns up. Without it being a possibly
corrupted package, or maybe bad RAM... some faulty hardware...
I'm out of ideas.... since on most people's hardware, and most
people's fresh FC4 install, there is not this problem.... it seems
unique to your system only.
Did you try init 6 after installing FC4, but before installing ccrma?
Did you try init 6 RIGHT after installing, but before upgrading
even the normal FC4 packages?
What does this show you? rpm -V SysVinit
Downloading the sound fonts are not going to be the problem
for that... in fact... you might not have even gunziped them yet?

David
