well i'm not really sure what the problem is. but if /dev/dsp exists
that probably means you have oss support...
but now that i think about it more, that shouldn't make too much of a
difference.

it's strange, however, that fluidsynth works but qsynth does not,
since qsynth just uses fluidsynth in the background. the only
difference is that qsynth has the gui... so perhaps it's something
about the gui that's the problem ? do you use kde ? if you use arts,
maybe arts is getting in the way of your sequencer ? do you use jack
or arts for your sound server ?
