Whoopie!  That's a great example meterbridge beginning command.  Now, I 
shall disable my mic, and run the command:

meterbridge -n meterbridge -t vu alsa_pcm:capture_1 alsa_pcm:capture_2

meterbridge comes up, and no action.

I shall now communicate with my daughter, in Minneapolis, and see if we 
can use these marvelous tools to get the microphone operational.
