[PlanetCCRMA] OT: FC3, Matrox G550 and X

Sorry for this OT question, but now I have done this fresh fc3 PlanetCCRMA
install and would like to test applications, but I have no image under X.
After booting I see the text console and then the monitor (LCD) on the
digital out of my Matrox G550 says 'no signal'. I can CtrlAltFx to a
console and ps sees X running. I do not understand all messages in the
log file, but I think I would recognize relevant error messages (I have
messed with X on other machines many times before...).

I thought maybe it's only a problem on the digital out and borrowed a crt,
but it's about the same there (black screen under X).

What can I do now?  Suggestions very welcome...
