Has anybody ever compiled a list of services that can or should be
stopped while doing sound work on Linux?  For example, I've been told
not to run gkrellm, but should sendmail be running?  Any other obvious
resource hogs that aren't required when running sound apps?

If not, maybe this thread could be the source of the list.  Feel free
to insert your $.02.
