discovered I'm behind a proxy (or should that be a poxy!) cache, its 
been showing problems
for over a week now on one of the url's so who knows how often they 
update....

As a tempory work round I added an extra / to the end of the url and it 
worked!

maybe when it happens again all I'll have to do is remove the extra 
slash (well you
never know)
