Hey,
The reason this (see below) was happening in my case was pretty silly. I had
forgotten to
make sure the sound driver is started and stopped when the machine boots and
shuts down.
For that use the chkconfig utility to add the alsasound script to the proper
run levels:
/sbin/chkconfig --add alsasound
Because the alsa startup script does the '/usr/sbin/alsactl restore '
...if it doesn't start, the mixer settings won't be restored after reboot.
(oops)
