I only upgrade core packages when there is a requirement by the software
I package that is not met. While upgrades can be fine most of the time
for most of the users, it is not always so (and the exceptions are the
big problem). The less chance I have of messing up other machines I
can't control the better :-) 

Plus there's the question of availability of time...
