[LAC-19] LAC + local high schools

Hi all,

I have an exciting connection to propose to our upcoming LAC at Stanford. I
talked to Maiya Newsome, director and founder of Onyx Scholars (
http://www.onyxscholars.org/). She runs this Bay Area non-profit focused on
creating opportunities for African-American high school students to prepare
to apply for HBCU colleges.

We brainstormed around the idea of offering some kind of Computer Music
workshop to her students at LAC, who would make a field trip day to come to
Stanford, participate in a workshop, maybe attend some of the sessions, and
attend a concert. We are talking 40-50 high schoolers from all over the Bay.

I was thinking of proposing a Laptop Orchestra Workshop for this (I'd
submit it to the call for works), where probably myself and my SCU students
could lead a SuperCollider workshop with the high school students.

This would be a great way to connect LAC with the local community -- and
her students seem to be particularly eager to absorb all things tech,
especially in music tech.

What do you all think? Also, if you see potential for any other kind of
directed activity LAC <-> high school students, please chime in!

Bruno
