[CM] Snd Selection Behaviour

I'm having a problem with snd wherein any command related to selection
results in an unbound variable error message.

I'm typing the commands as follows:

(make-selection :beg 5000 :end 7000)
(show-selection)
(clear-selection)

is there a reason for this?
