[Stk] STK on Linux

I am trying to install STK 4.4.4 on my linux ubuntu. After id do ./configure, I get the follow error message:

checking for audio API... using ALSA
checking for snd_pcm_open in -lasound... no
configure: error: ALSA support requires the asound library!

I have ALSA 1.0.27 installed on my linux machine. What am I missing?
