[Stk] kernel safe?

Hi Steve,

Actually, I'm looking at <cough> windows...  the plan is to make an EQ
library that can be called from a WDM filter driver in XP and APO in Vista
(with less of an issue as its in userland).  I'm hopeful for platform
expansion to OS X, which probably the closest I'll get to Linux in the near
future...
