Just a quick note, I've been using CCRMA professionally since fc5.
Works beautifully for me, and I've found the most reliable set up's to
be with fedora 6-7, the 32 bit versions. 8 proves to be a bit buggy
still. Personally I recommend having a separate *nix for
desktopification, and a separate fc7/6 for audio. If you like edirol, you
could also try tascam or maudio. Their hardware is very well supported
