Hi Oded,

I’ve searched the Internet for a while in order to change my laptop in a not so distant future – i hope! – and I would suggest a Lenovo Thinkpad. They seem to be used by RedHat developers, so you shouldn’t have any problem with Fedora ;). Dell have some nice computers too, but I can’t vouch for hardware support. But for your own sake, I would suggest to stay away from « gaming » laptops and keep Intel HD graphics – indeed, you never how far your BIOS can be configured, and thus can spend so much time with drivers or tools like bumblebee, and so on, to get what I would call a « usable » laptop, but not an efficient one…

Regarding your sound interface, I don’t know your budget and your request regarding IOs, but I would definitely recommend the new RME Babyface Pro. It’s crystal clear, with very low latency, and you get a full class compliant mode to run flawlessly under Linux without any driver! With its convenient control panel, you thus get a nice plug and play device. I’ve seen some problems with latency on Scarletts, but we’re definitely not comparing same beasts and prices.

Of course, it’s just my humble opinion and further researche and advice would be more than welcome.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop (fortune favoured me and I got a bit of money that needs to be spend by May...)
Any suggestions for a linux friendly laptop that is on the quieter side? A 14"-15" size since its my main work tool (12" is cool and all but too small for working everyday on).
And the sound interface question. I'll need a new USB interface (presuming these should work under linux. Am I right?) One option is focusrite Scarlett 6i6 anyone happens to use one?
