[PlanetCCRMA] fedora 17 and last kernel + can't start snd

I take it this is 3.4.4-rt13, right? I have not seen this happen so far, 
it would seem that you are getting a kernel Oops (an internal error) or 
there is something in your hardware that is making it freeze. To try to 
see what is going on you could try editing the boot command line (type 
"e" when you select the kernel) and removing the "rhgb quiet" part so 
that you see all kernel messages scroll by...
