Thanks for the detailed instructions, very helpful. Unfortunately it
still doesn't work. The module hdspm is loaded but not snd-hdspm and
I'm getting this error:

FATAL: Error inserting snd_hdspm
(/lib/modules/2.6.34.8-68.fc13.i686.PAE/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdspm.ko):
Device or resource busy

This is, as you can see, with the Fedora kernel. I haven't tried with
the RT kernel yet. I'll see if that makes a difference.
