While you are changing it, please make sure whatever you replace it with works firewire.  The current script doesn't actually list ohci.

By the way, if we don't use a usb interface, does that mean it is safe to remove usb from the RTIRQ_NAME_LIST?

If you are going to create udev rules for this, could you also add one with

KERNEL=="raw1394*", GROUP="audio", MODE="0660"

in it?
