[PlanetCCRMA] Fed 8 no midi, other sound problems.

On Fedora 8 (several kernels) my midi is gone.
Jack attempts to start and then I get this message.
"
the playback device "hw:0" is already in use. Please stop the application using it and run JACK again.
"
Often, after this all sound is gone until after reboot or, and this is really weird, or until I 
move ( wiggle ) the volume control slider.

Previous versions fc3,4,5,6 worked fine on this equipment ( Thinkpad A31 ).
