Ok, so it is the change of hard disk drivers. I double checked and the
fc6 kernels have changed that (it only was changed in fc7 before), maybe
a bug? I guess I'll have to get another one built with the older
choices. 

I'm running the fc6 kernel without problems in one of my machines and I
did not notice the slowdown.
