The ADA8000 takes eight balanced analogue XLR inputs and converts them
to a digital ADAT lightpipe signal - eight channels of audio over one
fibre. It also accepts a digital ADAT lightpipe input (one fibre) and
converts it to eight balanced analogue XLR outputs. It seems good value
to me (I have one).
However, I don't think the 1010LT has lightpipe inputs or outputs. As
far as I remember, it has something like eight analogue I/Os and two
digital I/Os.
I imagine you're trying to expand the number of (balanced) inputs you
have... I think you should be able to do a very nice job of recording an
acoustic drumkit with between four and eight inputs. A mic on the kick
drum, one on the snare, and a stereo pair of overheads works ok for me
usually.
I use my ADA8000 with an RME Digi9636, which I got for £77 on eBay (UK).
It works very nicely for me in Linux, and I could add eight channels
with another ADA8000.
