Hmmm, I don't think that fluidsynth could have affected that...
Check the integrity of alsa-lib:
   rpm -V alsa-lib

and while you do that let's check which version you have installed:
   rpm -q -i alsa-lib

Sounds like something is broken there (most probably the definitions for
the dmix plugin).
