[PlanetCCRMA] memory usage normal?

a question on memory usage. this is the usage of memory once I have started
fluxbox and run a few apps like emacs and firefox. I am aware that these do
consume some memory, but I wonder why it is almost all that is used. Is
there a good way how to find out which apps use how much?

Swap:          494          0        494

the used memory just after starting only fluxbox is around 30% of the
computers total memory.
