[PlanetCCRMA] snd-virmidi problem: /dev/midi* absent

Dear planetccrma list,

I cannot get snd-virmidi working on FC4. I believe it is loaded, so is snd-seq, but the 
/dev/snd/midi* files are absent; no sequencer clients are created, and aconnect -io does not 
enlist any ports.

The following did not help:
#modprobe snd-virmidi
/sbin/depmod -a
alsasound stop/start/restart
/sbin/chkconfig alsasound on

Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.
