[PlanetCCRMA] too many servers already active

I hate having to reboot for this ...
Doesn't someone know how to get around the reboot?
qjackctl bombed out due to some bad settings,
and apparently didn't clean up properly.
Trying to start jackd (from command line)
or qjackctl again results in "too many servers already active".
However:
$ ps afx | grep jack
6290 pts/0 R+ 0:00 | \_ grep jack
# find /var/lib/jack/
/var/lib/jack/
/var/lib/jack/tmp
/var/lib/jack/tmp/jack-500
/var/lib/jack/tmp/jack-500/default
/var/lib/jack/tmp/jack-500/default/jack-ack-fifo-6146-0
/var/lib/jack/tmp/jack-500/default/jack_ack_0
/var/lib/jack/tmp/jack-500/default/jack_0
# rm -rf /var/lib/jack/tmp/jack-500
... does NOT fix the problem....
I still get the same messages.. and qjackctl/jackd wont start.
... UNTIL I reboot, that is...
then all is fine again.
What is hanging around that I'm missing,
which a reboot is clearing out ?
thanks,
David
