OK, I removed the ".." in /etc/modprobe.conf, which seemed to be spaces (??)
-------------------
alias eth0 e100
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
alias snd-card-0 snd-ice1712
options snd-card-0 index=0.. #<<-- blanks?
options snd-ice1712 index=0.. #<<<--
remove snd-ice1712 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; };
/sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-ice1712
alias usb-controller uhci-hcd
--------------------
and heureka, I have sound now, thanks a lot, Fernando!
I´m still getting the alert about the not accessible sound server, but
sound works.
Jack load at 2-5% with Ardour running with 16 channels and several
plugins. Absolutely great!
When I have found some plugin sounding and looking (sigh!) similar to
the Waves plugins for VST,especially the "Renaissance-Compressor", I´ll
try it in a smaller production, albeit my sound engineers are not
convinced of the look and feel and the sound quality of the LADSPA plugins.
