[PlanetCCRMA] rh9 file types

I am using rh9 for a simple DVR and cannot get changes to the "file
types and programs" tool to stick.  When I add mplayer to run on an .avi
file and close the dialog it does not work - also when I open the tool
again the entry is no longer there.  I have also noticed that when I try
to add an item to the fedora menu it says it is a read only file
system.  Does the PlanetCCRMA do something to the normal RH9 permissions
that prevent me from changing these items?  Thanks. HHB
