Apologies for the Mandrake references. I was trying to help someone with a 
problem on MDK 10.1 and lost the distro plot somewhere. Doh. I've now got the 
correct hat on. The Fedora. The correct command for loading the snd-seq-midi 
module at bootup IS.  /sbin/chkconfig alsasound on , and, 
/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start  (or stop) , for starting and stopping Alsa. 
Both need to be initiated while su'ed to root. Nigel.
