No, good point. So far I've not attempted to use snd with Jack. On my
systems the on board sound chip is always default. I let default
audio, from games, web browsing, programs I don't normally use, go
there. I then route that audio back into the system through an
external A/D if I need it.
Currently when snd is started it goes to card 0 I believe:

Right. In my case, as I've built this on Gentoo with support for Alsa
and without support for ESD. There is no specific jack option in this
ebuild. I can load the ogg file, and I can view it visually, but I
only get hiss when I play it.

I still have one PlanetCCRMA machine but it is used outside the studio
area. I suppose I could load the Planet's version of snd and see if it
operates differently or better there.
I'll hang out a bit and see if any other snd users pop up, or maybe go
to LAU as I think it was first mentioned there as being a Jack aware
editor.
