No, good point. So far I've not attempted to use snd with Jack. On my
systems the on board sound chip is always default. I let default
audio, from games, web browsing, programs I don't normally use, go
there. I then route that audio back into the system through an
external A/D if I need it.

Currently when snd is started it goes to card 0 I believe:

mark@lightning ~ $ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [CK804 ]: NFORCE - NVidia CK804
                     NVidia CK804 with ALC850 at 0xda103000, irq 225
1 [DSP ]: H-DSP - Hammerfall DSP
RME Hammerfall HDSP 9652 at 0xda000000, irq 58

Right. In my case, as I've built this on Gentoo with support for Alsa
and without support for ESD. There is no specific jack option in this
ebuild. I can load the ogg file, and I can view it visually, but I
only get hiss when I play it.

lightning ~ # emerge -pv snd

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] media-sound/snd-7.10 +X +alsa -esd +gtk -guile -motif
-ruby 0 kB

I still have one PlanetCCRMA machine but it is used outside the studio
area. I suppose I could load the Planet's version of snd and see if it
operates differently or better there.

I'll hang out a bit and see if any other snd users pop up, or maybe go
to LAU as I think it was first mentioned there as being a Jack aware
editor.

Thanks,
