[PlanetCCRMA] Sound controls in KDE, Gnome

Should I expect the sound utilities that come with Gnome and KDE to work 
with ALSA?  I've tried setting some preferences, like system 
notifications and so forth, but they don't generally work.  KDE also 
gives me an error when I ask it to detect the soundcard, with the message:

The via82cxxx_audio driver could not be loaded.  This soundcard may not 
be compatible with Red Hat Linux.

It then proceeds to play the test sound with no problem, so I'm ignoring 
the message.
