Anybody out there that knows the 8x8? Does it need a firmware download?

What messages do you see in /var/log/messages regarding USB, anything
you can relate to the Midisport? What do you see in /proc/asound?
Do a:
  cat /proc/asound/cards
  cat /proc/asound/devices
