Well, looks like I know what's going on. This resurfaced while trying to
rebuild soundtouch on fc3. But this time the build was just bombing with
some error messages. It appears that there was a problem with the
assembler code included in mmx_gcc.cpp. It was clobbering the ebx
register (which is used for something else, I think) but the error was
only correctly reported in the newer gcc3.4 (include in fc3). I found a
patch for an older version in the mythtv mailing list which I modified
for the current stable version (1.2.1). I'm not sure if what I did is
right, but it seems to be working so far under fc3. 

I'll rebuilt on fc2 soon and check whether the fix still works.
