Ron,
   Hi buddy. No, I think you misunderstood me. My 'cron' comment was a
different tack. Not part of the X stuff at all. I was just saying to
Fernando that my file doesn't have this section.

   I'm thinking that cron is somehow causing my problem because the last
failure today was noted just slightly after the 8AM time on the system
clock.

   The two - cron and X windows - are clearly unrelated.

   I sort of think cron makes very little sense for me except for a little
bit of overnight stuff. However, today the default Redhat installation sets
up cron and I receive a mail every hour. I'd like to stop that anyway....

No cron.

You're simply setting configuration options which
apply upon starting X...there should be man pages for
xfree86-4 or whatever it's called.

Maybe it doesn't matter but I think server sections
can go at the top of the config  file.
